Four students from Nysmith participated in the 32nd annual American Mathematics Examination (AIME) Invitational on March 13, 2014.
Akshaj Kadaveru, Shaan Bhandarkar, Ajit Kadaveru, and Shwetark Patel qualified for the AIME by scoring in the top 2.5% of the American Mathematics Contest 10 or scoring in the top 5% on the American Mathematics Contest 12. The AIME contest was established in 1973 as an intermediate step between the high school (AMC 10 and AMC 12) contests and the U. S. A. Mathematical Olympiad. The AIME is a 15 question, 3 hour examination in which each answer is an integer from 0 to 999, students are very unlikely to obtain the correct answer by guessing. The questions on the AIME cover high school mathematics, and are much more difficult than those on the AMC 10 and AMC 12. These contests are prestigious and competitive. They are given in the US, Canada, and many schools overseas. Congratulations to these fine mathematicians.
