Four Seasons Tidal Waves vs Hunters Creek Stingrays

As the storm clouds rolled over the pool the Tidal Waves and the Stingrays lined up their swimmers for the first event of the night, hoping to at least get a few events in before the storms hit that were covering the area.

The 10 and under boys stepped up to the pool for their IM race and as they dove into the pool David Whomsley (HC) sprinted out with an early lead, throughout the race he was able to maintain his lead and he won the race, with Riley Burch (FS) coming in second behind him. For the girls 10 and under IM Georgia Cutrell (HC) started from the dive with an early lead which she increased during her 25 of Breaststroke. In the 11-12 boys race it a close race between Raymond AbouSamra (FS) and Thomas Longuillo (HC). Ray came out of the start with a slight lead and he held it for the lap of Butterfly but Thomas was able to catch up and take the lead during the lap of Backstroke. Thomas would hold the lead for the rest of the race with Ray holding on to second place. The girls’ race was led by Julia Salassi (HC) with Lauren Smith (FS) close behind for the whole race. The 13-14 boys race started off with Kevin Salassi in the lead for the first two laps, in the Breaststroke lap Jesse Caldwell and Cale Witmer almost caught up to Salassi, but he was able to hold his lead to get first, with his teammates Witmer and Caldwell finishing the Hunters Creek sweep of the race. The girls’ race started out with Gillian Cutrell (HC) in the lead, she was able to hold the lead until Meg Calhoun (HC) caught up to her and passed her during the 25 Backstroke lap during the race. Calhoun would hold the lead with Cutrell clinching second and Camryn Koch finishing in third. In the 15-18 boys IM Conor Cudahy led the Hunters Creek team to a sweep in the race by gliding in for the win. For the girls’ race Abigail Witmer from Hunters Creek led the race throughout the race.

Swimming ahead to the 9-10 boys Freestyle race, the whole pool was close for the first 25 of the 50 meters, but after the turn David Whomsley pulled ahead of the pack to get first place. In similar fashion the girls’ 9-10 race was close until the turn when Georgia Cutrell pulled away with Madison Kauffman finishing behind her in a strong second place. In both of the 9-10 races it was noted by coaches that their swimmers were vastly improving on their flip-turns, which may have been the cause for the best times that were raced for at the meet. Moving on to the 11-12 boys 50 meter Freestyle race, it was a close race at the start with Jack Adams and Raymond AbouSamra pulling ahead to get first and second place for the Four Seasons team. In the 11-12 girls’ race Grace Cutrell had a lead that was far ahead from the rest of the pack for most of the race. For the 13-14 boys Kevin Salassi pulled out another win for the Stingrays. In the 13-14 girls’ race Meg Calhoun was able to get the Stingrays yet another win with Camryn Koch of the Tidal Waves close behind. When the 15-18 boys raced it was a close race between all of the Hunters Creek boys. After the first and second heats of the 15-18 boys there was a third heat with only one swimmer in it so Coach David Robinson from the Hunters Creek Stingrays got in to swim with his swimmer so he wouldn’t have to swim alone. For the 15-18 girls race Carey Rice (HC) was able to win the race with Madison Howell close behind to clinch second.

In the last race of the meet, 6 and under boys 25 meter Backstroke, John O’Donovan from the Stingrays was able to secure the victory right as the storm clouds started piling up just to the West of the pool. After the 6 and under boys were done the lifeguards spotted lightning and delayed the meet until 8 o’clock. Alas when 8 PM rolled around and the swimmers were piling out of their cars so they could be lined up again for their next race, the lifeguards saw another bolt of lightning and decided it would be best to cancel the meet.
