Garage Fire Displaces 8, Causes $298K In Damage To Herndon Home
Fire inspectors determined that a fire that started in the garage of a Town of Herndon home caused $298,000 in damage and displaced eight.

HERNDON, VA — A house fire that displaced eight Town of Herndon residents last Wednesday caused an estimated $298,000 in damage, according to a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department blog post. No injuries were reported.
Units from FCFRD, as well as those from Loudoun County and the Washington Airports Authority fire and rescue departments, responded around 1:33 p.m., to the 800 block of Winterhaven Place for the report of a house fire.
Arriving on the scene, firefighters observed a fire showing from the garage and extending into the attic of a two-story, single-family home, according to the post. Crews worked to quickly to prevent the fire from spreading and eventually extinguished the blaze.

Firefighters rescued a cat, which they returned to the owners.
Fire investigators determined that four people were at home, when one noticed that a computer router was not working, according to the post. When one of the occupants went to reset the router in the garage, they discovered the fire, closed the door to the garage, and contacted 911.

Originating in the garage, the fire was determined to be accidental and electrical in nature, according to investigators. The fire displaced eight residents and caused an estimated $298,000 in damage. The residents accepted Red Cross assistance, according to the post.
