Heat Index To Soar Past 100 This Week In Herndon

We won't get relief from this punishing heat wave until Monday, according to forecasts.

HERNDON, VA — It's been pretty hot so far this week, but you ain't seen nothin' yet: forecasters are calling for the heat index to blast past 100 over the next few days in the Herndon area.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the high will be near 96 degrees on Thursday and the heat index could hit 100. On Friday and Saturday, the high could reach 98, with the heat index jumping into the low to mid 100s for Herndon.

The temperature should pull back a bit on Sunday, but temperatures will still be in the low to mid 90s.

After that, we should start to experience some relief from this brutal heat wave. Forecasters believe Monday's high will be just 91 degrees, and then dip all the way to the mid-80s by Tuesday.

A series of showers and thunderstorms may cool us off a little bit over the next few days. Thursday's chance of precipitation is 20 percent, followed by 20 percent again on Friday, and 40 percent on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

So if you had outdoor plans the next few days, it may be best to just cancel them and crank up the air conditioning instead.
