Herdon Youth Police Academy Accepting Applications Through June 3

Teens interested in learning about law enforcement and community policing can apply now for a spot in the Herndon Youth Police Academy.

HERNDON, VA – The Herndon Police Department welcomes teens ages 13 to 17 to register for its summer Youth Police Academy. The academy provides teens with a valuable glimpse into what the police department does on a daily basis. The Herndon Youth Police Academy is a free program that runs June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications are due June 3.

Teens will have the opportunity to learn about such topics as how to conduct a criminal investigation, what occurs during a traffic enforcement/safety call, K-9 programs, forensics and evidence collection, and other law enforcement-related subjects. The program is perfect for kids interested in law enforcement and their community. They even will be educated about the concept of “community policing.”

Acceptance into the program is subject to the review of an applicant’s criminal record and police contact history. Classes will be held at the Herndon Police Department at 397 Herndon Parkway. Class size is limited to 20 students and is filled on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact SPO Michael Murn at Michael.Murn@herndon-va.gov.
