Herndon To Appoint New Councilmember
The Herndon Town Council will vote Tuesday on whether to appoint Richard B. Kaufman to the vacant seat.

HERNDON, VA -- The Town of Herndon plans to fill a vacancy on the Herndon Town Council, and they will vote on a resolution Tuesday to appoint Richard B. Kaufman to fill the seat.
The vacancy was created by the death of Councilmember Jeff Davidson in April. Kaufman served as Herndon's town attorney from 1994 until he retired in 2015, and in that role he advised the Town Council on legislative issues, moved ordinances and contracts through the town's legislative process, and provided consultation on issues before the Virginia General Assembly that impacted Herndon, according to a statement from the town.
"His legal counsel on topics ranging from town boundaries to economic development was invaluable to the Town Councils under which he served, and he earned tremendous respect throughout his career from his legal peers throughout the Commonwealth," the statement adds. "He was active in several organizations, including the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc. and the Virginia Municipal League."
