Herndon Appoints Deputy Director of Public Works

Michael Doi to take over post vacated by the retirement of David Kochendarfer

The Town of Herndon's Department of Public Works has appointed Michael K. Doi as the deputy director, after the retirement of David Kochendarfer, who retired in March after 33 years with the town. Doi will be overseeing the town's operations division, including water and sewer systems, streets and storm drainage systems, parks and grounds, facilities and vehicles maintenance, refuse and recycling, and the operations center.

Doi has 20 years of experience in engineering design and plan review and in managing street, facility and fleet maintenance divisions, according to a Town of Herndon press release. Doi has served as director of public works for the cities of Berkeley, Furguson and Maplewood in Missouri. He has also served as street superintendent for the city of Davenport, Iowa, and has been a project engineer for a private sector engineering firm. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri at Columbia and is pursuing a master's degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University.

"Mike brings the right combination of skills and experience to his new role and to the department," said Bob Boxer, director of Herndon's Department of Public Works, in the town press release. "He understands all aspects of our operations, as well as the premium we place on providing exceptional service to our citizens. It is my pleasure to welcome him to the department’s management team."
