Herndon Black Lives Matter Marchers Organize Online Protest
Organizers of last Saturday's Black Lives Matter march through Herndon are promoting an online protest this weekend.
HERNDON, VA – Herndon residents who missed out on participating in last Saturday's Black Lives Matter march in Herndon will be able to take part in a digital protest this weekend.
Herndon residents are encouraged to post personal photos on Facebook using the #BLMHerndonInMotion hashtag starting at 9.a.m. on Friday, and continuing to 11:59 p.m., Sunday. The photos should express or represent support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement and changed that need to be made in the Herndon community.
"The goal of this project is to collect enough photos to create an online photo collage/slideshow that portrays the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of our community members surrounding the social and systemic racial injustices in this country," said Coco Buck, who organized last Saturday's march through Herndon and the upcoming online event.

Buck threw together last Saturday's march in 24 hours. Participants took a 1-mile march through downtown Herndon and then gathered on the Town Green. As they arrived, audio played giving the names of those who had lost their lives from acts of racial violence.
Once everyone was gathered together, the group set the timers on their phones to 8 minutes and 46 minutes — the amount of time a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on George Floyd's neck — and observed a moment of silence.

"For 8:46 there was silence on the Herndon Town Green," said Steve Pendlebury in a Facebook post. "It reminded me how important it is to be still and listen so I can understand the experiences and perspectives of people whose lives are not the same as mine."
About 300-350 people participated in Saturday's march.
Earlier last week, Herndon residents participated in a car rally to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement and to demonstrate for social justice.
