Herndon Celebrates National Night Out - Tues 8/6

Join your neighbors for National Night Out, Tuesday, August 6, starting at 5:30 pm.

National Night Out started in 1984 as America’s Night Out Against Crime, "an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood spirit and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized against crime."

According to National Association of Town Watch (NATW), the non-profit organizationational who originally created the event, "National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

The traditional “lights on” campaign and symbolic front porch vigils turned into a celebration across America with various events and activities including, but not limited to, block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from emergency personnel, rallies and marches, exhibits, youth events, safety demonstrations and seminars, in effort to heighten awareness and enhance community relations."

Celebrate across Herndon with our local police department, your friends and neighbors and your Town Council!  This is the 14th year that the Town has participated in the national event.  Neighbors are gathered to cook out, hang out, have kids activities and more!  Please remember to turn on your front porch light that night too.
