Herndon College Student Helps Lead Iowa Fundraiser
Ellie Wichman was one of the student leaders of the University of Iowa's annual Dance Marathon, which raised $1.4 million for charity.
IOWA CITY, IA — Ellie Wichman of Herndon was among the 1,400 students to take part in the 27th annual Dance Marathon, which raised $1.4 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, according to a school release.
As a member of the Leadership/Finance Committee, Wichman was also one of the 275 students to hold a leadership position with Dance Marathon during the current academic year. Dance Marathon is the university's largest student organization.
The"Rise with Resilience" initiative raised a total of $1,422,443.27. The student annual fundraiser has raised more than $31 million since it started in 1995.

"A very popular spark word this year has been resilience," DM27 executive director Elizabeth Jackson told the University of Iowa's Daily Iowan, in the release. "But for our families, they've been resilient as they received a diagnosis, got treatment, entered remission, or lost their child. The epitome of resilience is to have to go through all those challenges."
