Herndon Girls Finish Third at Indoor Track Regionals

Carolyn Hennessey and Carina Peter enjoy first-place individual finishes

The Herndon girls indoor track and field team finished third in Saturday's Northern Region meet at George Mason University led by Carolyn Hennessey and Carina Peter.

First-year head coach, Wayne Gore, who is also a Herndon alum, was very pleased with his team’s effort. “I think that the program is excellent. We have some very good athletes and I’m really looking forward to their performances this upcoming weekend at the state meet.”

Hennessey placed first in the 3200-meter run and Peter won the 55-meter dash. Peter's day wasn't done, as she came in third in the triple jump and fourth in the 300 meters.

The Herndon Boys 4x200 meter relay team (Jesus Hernandez, Marshall Findley, Alex Fisher, Josh Schow) placed third in the event, qualifying them for the state meet. Their 1:33:18 finish just barely missed setting a school record. Enuma Ezenwa placed second in the high jump.

“The meet went really really well for my team. They went out and competed as best as they could," Gore said.
