Is Herndon Going to Get Any More Snow This Winter?
Temperatures have surged into the 70s this February, so does Herndon have any chance of getting a snowstorm before the spring hits?
HERNDON, VA — If you're a fan of snow, this winter has been a pretty big bust so far in the Herndon area. As the Northeast gets pounded by blizzard conditions right now, we've been experiencing temperatures in the 70s. So will we get snowfall before spring hits in just a few weeks?
No one has a crystal ball, but as of right now, things aren't looking good for snowfall, at least in the near future. Temperatures dipped enough today to generate a few snowflakes in the area, but they're about to rise again into the mid-60s for the weekend. So although we're expected to get precipitation on Sunday, it's going to be rain.
That leaves not much time for snowfall to hit for the rest of the winter, as we'll be into late February next week. And although temperatures are expected to dip, they're still probably going to be too warm for snowfall.

Weather.com forecasts that highs will hover in the high 40s to about 50 degrees throughout next week, which is about average for this time of year in the D.C. area. That's too high for snow to form, however, and the week after is expected to be even warmer, with temperatures surging back into the mid to high 50s. So, unfortunately for snow enthusiasts, there isn't a cold snap on the immediate horizon, and March is just around the corner.
That's not to say that snow is an impossibility after February closes out. As anyone who has lived in the area for a while knows, winter tends to hang around in March. In 2015, the D.C. area got hammered by a snowstorm that dropped about a half a foot of snow on the region, with Dulles International Airport getting 8.6 inches. And March 2014 saw 12.7 inches of snow after two major storms, according to a WTOP report.
