Dog Dies In Herndon House Fire Started By Unattended Candle
A dog was found dead on the second floor of a Herndon house that caught fire from a candle, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
HERNDON, VA — A house fire in Herndon on Tuesday morning caused the death of a dog, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, units from Fairfax County Fire and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 400 block of Pickett Lane in Herndon.
Units arrived on the scene of a two-story, single-family house with smoke coming from the second floor, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Crews were able to rapidly extinguish the fire.

During search and rescue operations, one dog was found dead on the second floor. No people were injured in the fire, according to the fire department.
One person who was home at the time of the fire saw smoke coming from the vents and saw a fire on the second floor. He left the house and called 911. The fire department said there were no working smoke alarms inside the home.

Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental and started on the second floor when an unattended candle was left burning.
Seven people were displaced because of the house fire. Red cross assistance was offered and accepted by the people. Damages as a result of the fire were about $50,000, according to the fire department.
