Herndon Man Dies After Falling 10 Stories on New Year's Eve in DC: Report

The man had reportedly climbed to the roof of the Dupont Circle Hotel.

WASHINGTON, DC — A Herndon man is dead after falling 10 stories from the Dupont Circle Hotel on New Year's Eve, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that 23-year-old John Leonard of Herndon had climbed up to the roof at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 to get a good view when he fell into a boiler shaft and tumbled 10 stories all the way to the basement. Firefighters spent an hour trying to retrieve his body.

Leonard was a guest at the hotel and may have been on the roof with his girlfriend at the time, according to the report.
