Herndon Man Wins 100 Grand in Virginia Lottery

Winning ticket sold at Sterling convenience store, say lottery officials.

A hospital cook from Herndon is $100,000 richer, according to the Virginia Lottery.

The lottery announced Tuesday that Duane Gillis bought a winning ticket on June 20 in the Cash 5 game. His winning numbers: 9-11-24-26-28.

Gillis bought the winning tcket for the Cash 5 day drawing at the Bright Star Mini Mart, at 46000 Old Ox Road in Sterling. He allowed the lottery machine’s computer to randomly select the numbers on his ticket.

His chance of winning the top prize of 100 grand in the drawing was one in 278,256, the Virginia Lottery said.

Gillis told lottery officials that he intends to save his winnings.
