Herndon Metro Station's Parking Garage Will Start Taking Shape Very Soon

The $43.5 million seven-story garage should be completed by 2019 if all goes according to schedule.

HERNDON, VA — Work is underway on the new Innovation Center Station parking garage as Herndon's first Metro station gets nearer and nearer to reality.

Fairfax County tweeted out a photo Monday of the lot where the parking garage will be built, which has been completely bulldozed and leveled. It is located near the Dulles Toll Road at 2345 Innovation Center Drive.

The parking garage will be seven stories tall and have 2,040 spaces. The structure will cost $43.5 million, and contractor Manhattan Construction is building it. It is expected to be completed in 2019 and it will be owned and operated by the county.

It will be the third garage built by Fairfax County to support the Silver Line as it expands westward to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County.

"Features of the new garage include bus bays, a kiss-and-ride area, a taxi stand, motorcycle spaces, and a secure room to house more than 100 bicycles, a pocket park with a rain garden, LED lighting, a snow-melting system, and landscaping," the county said in a recent statement. "Also included in the project is the installation of public art and the placement of informational signs about native plantings and stormwater management facilities."
