Herndon Police Body Cameras About to Go Live, Authorities Want Public Input

Police hope to fully deploy the body cameras in April after a pilot program late last year.

HERNDON, VA — The Herndon Police Department will hold a public comment and information session on body worn cameras next week in advance of full deployment of the cameras, which could come as soon as next month.

Herndon police conducted a pilot program to evaluate the effectiveness of body worn cameras, during which they equipped officers with cameras to capture audio and visual footage during encounters with the public.

The next step in the process will be to get input from the community before fully deploying the cameras in April. Chief Maggie DeBoard will host a public forum on March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Herndon Police Station, and both citizens and media are invited to attend, according to a statement from the police department.
