Herndon Police Department Gets Big Haul from Drug Take Back Day

Police collected nearly 200 pounds of prescription drugs from the public.

HERNDON, VA — The Herndon Police Department collected nearly 200 pounds of drugs during a Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

Police invited the public to bring the expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs so they could be disposed of properly. The public responded big time, filling 10 bags with 187.7 pounds worth of drugs.

"It was another successful Drug Take Back Day yesterday at HPD," the police department stated on its Facebook page. "Thanks to all of you who took the time to come in and safely dispose of your unwanted medications."

A Drug Take Back Day was held nationwide on Oct. 22 as part of a national initiative by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The DEA recommends disposing of drugs that are unused or unwanted to avoid misuse and abuse of the medicines.
