Herndon Police Receive 9th Meritorious Award
The department will be honored at a Nov. 29 town council meeting.

HERNDON, VA — The Herndon Police Department has received its 9th meritorious award of reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
The police department received the award on Nov. 5 at a conference in Charleston, S.C., according to a statement from the Herndon Police Department.
"This award reflects the department’s successful compliance with professional law enforcement standards and also represents 30 years of accredited status under a formal program," the statement reads. "The Herndon Police Department is committed to delivering professional law enforcement services to the Town of Herndon and is pleased to announce this successful accomplishment."

Herndon was the 7th police agency to be accredited by CALEA. It was the 42nd in the United States.
The Herndon Police Department will be recognized at a town council meeting on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. Craig Hartley, the executive director of CALEA, will be on hand to present the award.
