Herndon Restaurant Violations: Cockroach In A Large Pan

Fairfax County reported violations at Supper Club of India, Uptown Cafe Dulles, and others according to inspections from May 26-31.

Editor's note: The original headline stated that the cockroach was found in a frying pan. We've since changed the wording to "large pan," as per the report.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts inspections of Herndon restaurants. Reports are generally posted about a week after the inspection. We've listed the violations from inspections at Herndon restaurants -- including an alarming cockroach discovery at the Supper Club of India -- between May 26-31, the most recent dates available.

Critical violation No. 1: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following food item(s) were observed cold holding at improper temperatures using a calibrated food temperature measuring device: Babybel cheese (53F), Hummus (47F), Yogurt (48F) in Open display cooler (cashier).

Critical violation No. 2: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The person in charge is not able to provide written procedures for the use of time as a public health control with the following potentially hazardous food item(s): Milk at coffee station, all TCS foods at COLD buffet station.

Non-critical violation No. 1: Observation: Surfaces of ice bins, beverage dispensing nozzles, and enclosed components of equipment are not being cleaned as required. OBSERVED ICE MACHINE IN NEED OF CLEANING.

Non-critical violation No. 2: Observation: The certified food manager could not provide a food temperature measuring device.

Non-critical violation No. 3: Observation: Observed that sign or poster that notifies food employees to wash their hands is not provided at all handwashing sinks used by food employees. OBSERVED NO HANDWASHING SIGN AT HANDSINK AT COOKLINE AND IN MENS BATHROOM.

Non-critical violation No. 4: Observation: The premises is not being routinely inspected for the presence of cockroaches. OBSERVED COCKROACHES IN LARGE PAN WHEN REMOVED FROM SHELF.

Non-critical violation No. 5: Observation: Observed that the hood and filters at the cookline are in need of cleaning.

Sliced tomatoes on ice at cookline (45F)

Critical violation No. 2: Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): When tested, the low temperature, chemical sanitizing warewashing machine at the bar was observed with a sanitizing rinse concentration of less than 50 ppm chlorine solution.

Non-critical violation No. 1: Observation: There is no test kit located in the facility for monitoring the concentration of the chemical sanitizing solutions.
