Herndon and Reston: Huge Amount of Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Virginia Event

The annual "Plane Pull" has raised $2 million for special needs children in Virginia since 1993.

Attention Herndon and Reston residents: Special Olympics Virginia needs a ton of volunteers this September at Dulles International Airport.

A total of 600 volunteers are needed for the 24th Annual Plane Pull benefiting Special Olympics Virginia at Dulles International Airport Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., according to a statement.

The volunteers are needed to "help with all of the events that happen during this hefty fundraiser, so choose your own adventure! From T-shirt sales, team check in and event parking to car show monitors, event greeters and event clean up, shifts are offered in the morning from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and in the afternoon from 12 to 4 pm, or sign up for both shifts if you’re willing."

The first-ever Plane Pull was held all the way back in 1993 at Dulles, and Special Olympics Virginia has raised more than $2 million since then for athletes with intellectual disabilities statewide.

Similar Plane Pulls are held at other locations across the United States.
