Herndon Snow Alert: White Stuff Incoming (Or Maybe Not)
Snowflakes are expected this week, but don't expect much.

Don't let the warm temperatures in the 50s today fool you: we are approaching snow-o-clock in the D.C. area -- although once again accumulation may be totally non-existent, at least for now.
The moisture begins toward the evening rush hour Thursday and starts as rain, and then it may start to transition into snowflakes later on. "Expect minimal or no accumulation," notes the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.
Temperatures start to plunge on Friday, and it's going to be quite windy.

On Super Bowl Sunday, we may see some light snow early on, but most likely it will shift to rain before any of it starts to accumulate.
If the upcoming forecast is any indication, you're going to be snow-frustrated for a while. Temperatures are expected to stay pretty warm for the first half of the month for the D.C. area, according to extended outlook forecasts from Weather.com, so any precipitation we do get will probably manifest itself as rain for the foreseeable future. That could of course change, however.

There's still time left in the season, but so far it appears that forecasters calling for 20+ inches of snow for the D.C. area this winter were way off the mark.
