Herndon Snow Update: Here's What To Expect Saturday
Just a day ago one model called for 18 inches of snow. Here's what will probably happen.

HERNDON, VA -- Yes, it's true that one model predicted as much as 18 inches of snow for the D.C. region on Sunday. No, that's almost certainly not going to happen -- but we have a high possibility of getting some snow in the Herndon area.
Even a little bit of snow would be remarkable in April, as it would be the first time in more than a decade that that's happened. And the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang is currently predicting that D.C. and surrounding Maryland counties will get a coating to 2 inches of snow, while Northern Virginia sits in the 1-3 inches category.
The National Weather Service agrees, putting out a bulletin warning of a high snow potential this weekend.

"There is an enhanced winter storm threat late Friday night and Saturday," it states. "Accumulating wet snow is possible across the entire area. Significant wet snow is possible over the Potomac Highlands. The primary threat is disruption to travel, but power outages are possible if significant wet snow occurs."
However, there is a high bust potential with this storm, CWG says. In fact, it's not out of the question that we get nothing at all, with new models showing the storm weaker than before and passing farther to the south -- and moving out of the area quickly. But as it stands, yes, it does look like we'll get some accumulation on Saturday.

When exactly will the snow hit? Most likely it will begin with rain early Saturday morning that will transition to sleet and finally to snow by about 8 a.m. With temperatures in the 30s, it will continue snowing until the precipitation dries up by the mid-afternoon.
Stay tuned, however: a lot can change between now and Saturday.
