Herndon Snow Update: Saturday Snowfall Still Iffy

It's still unclear whether we'll get a few inches of the white stuff or just a bunch of rain.

HERNDON, VA -- We're only a little more than 24 hours outside of when wintry weather is expected to possibly move into our area, and yet the forecast still isn't very clear. We might get snow, and we might just get a lot of rain in Herndon.

Saturday will start sunny before clouds start moving in, and then a wintry mix will start to develop in the mid afternoon. After that is when things get really hazy.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says that "more significant snowfall potential can't be completely ruled out, even locally," but the "rain-snow line is a bit of a moving target, which makes the forecast especially challenging."

Temperatures will hover in the mid-30s when the precipitation begins before starting to get colder, leading to snow (possibly).

The precipitation will move the area quickly and be out of here sometime between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., but if we do get snow, it could fall heavily during certain periods.

Overall, CWG says the likeliest accumulation will be in the north and west of D.C. late Saturday and into Saturday night.

If we do get snow, it won't stick around long. On Sunday, it will be sunny and temperatures will soar perhaps into the mid-50s.
