Herndon three term councilman Pradip Dhakal runs for Mayor

Pradip has served 3 consecutive term from 2019 to 2024 as a Councilmember

Candidacy Announcement:

I am thrilled to share with you that I have decided to run for the position of Mayor of the Town of Herndon in the upcoming election. I was the first to file the candidacy for Mayor at the Fairfax county office of election. I am awaiting the completion of all the requirements such as petition signatures.

It's crucial for Herndon to have leadership that mirrors demography of our community, ensuring inclusivity and representation for all.

Herndon deserves a leader who can collaborate with everyone, foster open discussions of new ideas, and introduce initiatives to propel our town forward. I am committed to working tirelessly to make Herndon an even better place for all our residents. I am eager to bring my experience to the role.

Having served on the town council for three consecutive terms, and having always thoughtfully built consensus, I am equipped to efficiently lead the town. My decision to run for mayor decision has been fueled by encouragement from the Herndon community. I also have the majority support from the current town council.

If elected, I will be the first ever mayor of color from the town of Herndon.

Here are some of the initiatives that I’ve championed and would like to continue further.

1. Affordable Housing: Collaborating with the county and other partners to boost affordability and workforce housing options in or near Herndon.

2. Traffic calming initiatives: Identifying and implementing traffic calming initiatives to reduce vehicular and pedestrian accidents.

3. Community Safety: Enhancing overall safety and security within our town.

4. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Actively advancing DEI initiatives to foster diverse representation in the council, boards and commission and even in the town’s other leadership positions.

5. Multicultural Engagement: Introducing vibrant events and programs tailored to our town's diverse population.

6. Pedestrian and Cyclist-Friendly Infrastructure: Enhancing accessibility with ADA-compliant sidewalks and road-sharing programs to promote walkability and cycling.

7. Economic Growth: Revamping Herndon's image by rebranding and marketing to attract new sources of revenue for the town.
