HERNDON, VA — By spending an extra dollar on what turned out to be a winning Virginia Lottery ticket, Nancy Reeve of Herndon multiplied her Powerball winnings by a factor of five, according to a release.

When Reeve purchased her Powerball ticket for the Oct. 15 drawing, she spent an extra dollar for Power Play, which for that drawing was "5x." Using Easy Pick, Reeve allowed the computer to randomly select her numbers.

Reeve's numbers turned out to match four of the five numbers from the Oct. 15 drawing, which netted her $50,000. But, because she'd purchased Power Play, her total prize came to $250,000.
