Hillary Clinton's VP Pick No Stranger to Herndon

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) has visited Herndon many times just in the last few years.

Just a day before Hillary Clinton tapped him as her vice presidential candidate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine was hanging out in Herndon having lunch at Jimmy's Old Town Tavern -- and that isn't all that unusual for arguably Virginia's favorite lawmaker. If things go the Democrats' way this November, the vice president will be someone who knows Herndon well.

Kaine, who was named Clinton's VP pick July 22, showed up unannounced to the popular local hangout, a place he's been to numerous times over the years in the state where he's served as mayor, governor and now U.S. senator. But it's not Jimmy's he frequents -- he's been all over Herndon in recent years.

Just last year, he was at Nysmith School for the Gifted to meet with students at a STEM symposium, where he checked out some of the projects on display.

It's not always easy for a U.S. senator to get out of D.C., so in 2014, seniors from Herndon High School came to him, posing for a photo with the man who could be one step from the presidency.

Kaine made a couple visits to Herndon in 2013, including the Hispanic Business Council Reception in September. In June of that year, he toured downtown Herndon, stopping by Jimmy's and some other local businesses.

There's still a long way to go until the election, and America still has yet to get to know Kaine -- but Herndon certainly knows him well already.
