A suspect reportedly led police on an wild chase Wednesday night that resulted in two crashes.

HERNDON, VA -- A Prince George's County man faces multiple felonies after an extraordinary "crime spree" on Wednesday that involved assaulting a child, carjacking, and then causing a huge crash in Herndon near Dulles Airport that sent nine people to the hospital, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.
Brendan Stefon Vinson, 28, of Adelphi faces multiple felony charges, police say. He is still in the hospital, as are a woman and five children who were injured in the crash.
"The suspect is charged with carjacking, speed to elude, two assaults on police officers and receiving stolen property," the report states. "Just this afternoon, our officers called for back-up at the hospital when the suspect tried to wrestle out of his handcuffs. Two of our officers who were injured by the suspect as he was being arrested had minor injuries and are expected to return to work."

It all started at around 7:45 p.m., when a call came in for an assault on a child.
"Officers responded to the 6100 block of Early Autumn Drive in Centreville and learned a man had randomly knocked on the door of the home and hit a young child who answered the door," the report states. "The suspect then fled the scene in a car that was reported stolen as a result of a carjacking in Hyattsville at about 6 pm last night. The suspect then crashed into a pick-up truck at Stone Road and Lee Highway and carjacked that driver. He then stole a trailer and attached it to the pick-up."

Responding officers saw the suspect fleeing in the pick-up with the trailer attached and tried to pull him over.
"The suspect led officers on a short pursuit which ended at the intersection of Centreville Road and Frying Pan Road as the suspect ran a red light and collided with a van in the intersection," the report states. "Determined to avoid capture, the suspect then ran from the intersection but officers managed to catch up with him. The suspect then assaulted both officers as he again tried to get away."
A child was thrown from the minivan, and was flown to the hospital in critical condition. The other victims have non-life-threatening injuries.
