Huge Herndon Festival Kicks Off This Week: What You Need To Know

The Herndon Festival will feature a carnival, races, and lots of entertainment and local vendors.

HERNDON, VA -- The 2018 Herndon Festival is almost upon us, opening Thursday, May 31 and running through Sunday, June 3. Here's everything you need to know about the event.

WHAT: The 2018 Herndon Festival: "Come to historic downtown Herndon for the 38th Annual Herndon Festival. Enjoy four days of fun-filled activities, vendors, and entertainment. Save time and money, park for free and ride our complimentary shuttle bus. Plus admission and entertainment are always free!"

WHEN: May 31-June 3: Thursday 6pm-10pm; Friday 5pm-11pm; Saturday 10am-11pm; Sunday 10am-6pm

WHERE: Historic downtown Herndon - 777 Lynn Street. Elden Street, Spring Street, and Center Street will be closed in downtown, so you may be better off getting a shuttle bus from nearby locations rather than driving there. Here's more information on shuttle buses. You can also take the Metro Silver Line to the Wiehle-Reston stop and then take the 950 Fairfax Connector bus to downtown Herndon.

The festival offers the following attractions:

ENTERTAINMENT: "We are excited to present our stellar entertainment lineup! On Thursday make sure to see one of the hottest rising country acts, Farewell Angelina! You can rock out to the premier tribute act Almost Queen on Friday. Saturday enjoy Roomful of Blues winning combination of jump, swing, blues, R&B, and soul. A few very popular acts in the Festival's history return this year. The Hunts will entertain you with their soaring harmonies and newest tunes! Jam out at Jimmie's Chicken Shack's reunion concert. Sunday the Depot Stage has a trifecta of great bands Three Sheets To The Wind, KSTONE4U, and Good Shot Judy."

CARNIVAL: A ferris wheel, more than a dozen rides, and games will be available at the festival. A single ticket costs $1.25; a book of 30 tickets costs $30, and a book of 50 tickets costs $45. You can also purchase all-you-can-ride wristbands for $16 each day, except for Sunday when it is $24.

KIDS: There will be a host of events for children, such as a Hands-On-Art Area, fireworks displays, and a Kids' Car Creation and Puppet Show. For more information click here.

10K/5K RACES: "The race course takes you through historic downtown Herndon during Herndon Festival weekend. Both the 10K and 5K courses are USATF certified. Awards are presented to the top two finishers from each age group from the 10 & under, to 70 & over." For more information click here.
