Hurricane Jose Herndon Update: Here's Where The Storm Is Going
The storm is sitting in the Atlantic right now, but could it take a sudden shift toward our area this week?

HERNDON, VA — Hurricane Jose is currently churning in the Atlantic Ocean not far from us, dangerously close to the Outer Banks to North Carolina. But how likely is Jose to hit the Herndon area? Fortunately, things are looking good for us -- although Jose's path could change at any moment.
The current track has Jose heading north, staying just offshore from the Virginia coast and Chesapeake Bay. By Tuesday, it should be directly off the Virginia coast and still at hurricane strength.
The National Hurricane Center predicts Jose will continue to move north toward Boston, weakening to a tropical storm and then veering east and back out to sea just before landing in New England, so hopefully everyone will be spared Jose's wrath.

However, hurricanes are unpredictable and can quickly change directions, so until Jose has safely moved out to sea, it's not time to breathe easy just yet.
Meanwhile, some other systems have developed that could threaten our area in the coming weeks. Tropical Storm Maria is taking a path similar to Irma and is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane next week as it hits the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. And Tropical Depression Lee, located farther out to sea, is also heading in our direction.
