Hurricane Jose Herndon Update: Storm Lingers Dangerously Near

Jose, a Category 1, is pounding the Delmarva coast on Tuesday, but forecasts indicate good news for our area.

HERNDON, VA — Hurricane Jose is currently lingering in the Atlantic Ocean just outside of the Chesapeake Bay, ominously close to the Herndon area. Fortunately, however, the current track shows him moving out to sea pretty soon.

The Category 1 storm has seen its track shift a bit in the coming days, and in a way favorable to residents along the coast from the Outer Banks up to Boston. Now, Jose is projected to move northeast, weakening to a tropical storm and then doing another loop that will see it continue to weaken and dissipate a safe distance from shore.

Of course, hurricanes are always unpredictable, and Jose could suddenly veer toward our area, but so far things are looking good. In the meantime, Jose will continue to pound the Delmarva coasts with large swells.

Meanwhile, dangerous Hurricane Maria has increased in strength to a Category 5 as it churns through the Caribbean. Its path is expected to suddenly shift north, so it could impact our area next week.
