ICYMI: Herndon Crime Stats Show Big Increase in Drug, Weapon Violations
Fairfax County has released their 2016 crime statistics, and there was a 2% uptick in crime in the county compared to 2015.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County has released crime statistics for 2016 for the Reston District and the rest of the county, and overall there was a 2 percent increase in crime in 2016 compared to the year before. Reston and Herndon saw a significant increase in drug and weapon violations.
The crime statistics page, which was released by the county on Wednesday, allows you to view overall crime stats and also narrow it down to police districts.

The Reston District, which includes Herndon, reported 23 sex offenses in 2016 compared to 20 the year before.
Crimes against property dipped from 2,400 to 2,297 in the district, but "crimes against society" jumped from 405 to 493 in 2016 compared to 2015. The main driver was a big increase in drug/narcotic offenses, which went from 360 to 417, although weapon law violations nearly doubled from 34 to 64 as well.

“The mission of the Fairfax County Police Department is to prevent and fight crime through community engagement and information sharing, and it is this partnership that keeps Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States," Fairfax County Police Chief Col. Edwin Roessler said in a statement.
