We attend school, work with and are married to persons of different religious backgrounds – various denominations of Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims and others. How do we communicate with each other about our faith and why does it matter?

All ages are welcome…with a special invitation to young adults.

Fr. James Loughran, SA, directs GEII in New York City and previously directed the Office of Ecumenism for the Archdiocese of New York.

Juan David Barajas and Joseph Krawczyk are summer interns with GEII who recently devoted several weeks studying interfaith and interreligious dialogue in Rome. Both are keenly interested in the interfaith and interreligious movements as they discern doing ministry in and for the Church.

Note: GEII is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, a Roman Catholic religious community of brothers and priests in the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi and the founder of the Society of the Atonement, Father Paul Wattson, SA. Paul Wattson was an early pioneer of the ecumenical movement in the United States. From his Friary at Graymoor, in Garrison, NY, he contributed to the founding of what is now the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and identified the primary work of the Friars of the Atonement to be that of Christian unity.

After the Second Vatican Council, when the Catholic Church made a full commitment to the modern ecumenical movement, the Friars of the Atonement established what was then called Graymoor Ecumenical Institute, first at Graymoor and later at its present location at the Interchurch Center, 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY.

As a ministry of the Friars of the Atonement, GEII promotes Christian unity and interreligious dialogue in North America by:

Study and Research in the ecumenical and interreligious movements through writing, workshops and participation in dialogues between and among the churches as well as with different faith communities at the local and national level.

About Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church: Founded in 1972, Christ the Redeemer has continued to grow. Their blessed growth was given physical shape in February 2000 as the congregation dedicated their new Church and the new Chapel of our Lady of Guadalupe. Their worship overflows into the Pastoral Center where the faith is shared and the local community is served. The Atonement Hall serves all educational and social needs.
