Investigators Find Out Why Herndon Man Died in His Jail Cell
Police found 53-year-old Kelly Maurice Scott dead in his cell on Sept. 3.
FAIRFAX, VA — A Herndon man who died in his jail cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center died from a perforated ulcer, confirming preliminary findings that he died from natural causes.
Police identified 53-year-old Kelly Maurice Scott of Herndon as the deceased. He had been incarcerated since Sept. 15, 2015, according to a statement from the Fairfax County Police Department.
Fairfax County Sheriff's Office personnel found Scott unresponsive in his cell at 6:41 a.m. on Sept. 3. He was pronounced dead soon after.

"Nothing appears suspicious at this time," Fairfax County Police said in their original statement.
The Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy Sept. 5. The official cause of death for Scott was determined to be "acute peritonitis due to perforated duodenal ulcer," with the manner of death being listed as "natural," according to a Sept. 7 statement from the Fairfax County Police Department, which noted that the autopsy report is not yet complete.
