Food For Neighbors: Hunger Is Closer Than You Think
Food For Neighbors: Hunger Is Closer Than You Think (Food For Neighbors)

October 16, 2020 is World Food Day, a day celebrating the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the commitment to conquering hunger. According to the FAO, more than 2 billion people lack reliable sources of sufficient food that is safe and nutritious. In Fairfax and Loudoun counties, one in four children struggle with food insecurity, and Food For Neighbors greatly appreciates its many volunteers, donors, and partners for helping to combat hunger.

“As we are a grassroots nonprofit that mobilizes residents to address food insecurity in their communities, we rely heavily on support from our volunteers, donors, and partners,” noted Karen Joseph, co-founder of Food For Neighbors. “They make a direct impact on the many middle and high school students we serve in 22 schools in Fairfax and Loudoun counties.”

Food For Neighbors thanks the over 1,200 households who donate $25 of food approximately five times per year, and the over 650 volunteers collecting, sorting, and distributing the food. It also thanks the wonderful individual donors and steadfast partners, who make its important work possible. Partners include Brandywine Realty Trust, Elden Street Tea Shop, Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, First Baptist Church of Herndon, Giant Foods, Great Harvest Bread Company, Green Lizard Cycling, Herndon Cheer, Herndon NJROTC, Hornets Lacrosse, MOD Pizza, No Child Goes Hungry, Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation, Riverside Presbyterian Church, Sprouts Farmers Market, Town Center Family Medicine, Touchstone Crystal, Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Westwood Baptist Church.
