As anyone who’s ever been to a Herndon Towne Square Singers’ concert is aware, in addition to big-group numbers, the concert features small ensembles, trios, duets and solos. Thus it is, that on Monday night at ArtSpace Herndon, immediately prior to the Singers’ group practice, a smaller group, the Treble Clefs, is rehearsing “Yes, Virginia” for the Singers’ upcoming “Lights, Camera, Christmas” concert.
“Oh, that’s coming right along,” says Treble Clefs Director Jean Goldsby. “Have you started memorizing it yet?”
Hearing general agreement that we are, indeed, beginning to commit the number to memory, she turns her attention to the Cole Porter music we’re rehearsing for an afternoon concert at Falcon’s Landing in Ashburn.

In an adjoining room, Singers’ Director “C” Culpepper holds parts rehearsals and runs through some of the solos and duets for the Christmas show. This is a multi-tasking effort in every sense of the word!
At the end of the hour, the various groups and subgroups combine and “C” takes the podium. “Its less than five weeks until hell week,” she reminds us as we take out “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.” It will be an intense night … but fun. It is, after all, the fun and pure joy of singing that brings us here week after week.
