Summary Description
The primary purpose of this position is to organize, design, and plan, coordinate, promote,
and evaluate church events, both internal and external community focused events. The
coordinator is responsible for the recruitment and management of volunteers in accomplishing
the goals and objectives of the various events. This position will also be the point of contact
for outside organizations looking to host events at Floris UMC. Working with other ministry
areas within the church, including but not limited to, communications, facilities, program
directors and staff, the events coordinator will work to develop a standardized approach to
event management and hosting.
The ideal candidate for this position will be professional, independent, and have a love for
special events. With a servant’s heart and team spirit this individual will need a can do
attitude, be energetic and creative and love working with people.
Duties
Serves as the primary point of contact for events held by and at the church. The Events and
Connections Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of event planning and coordination
from concept to implementation. The position will require an interface with all ministry areas
of the church and as such, this person will be expected to develop close working relationships
with key programmatic and administrative areas.
Specific duties include:
Community interface and community focused event development and management,
including but not limited to, the Easter Festival, Trunk or Treat, Chocolate Festival,
annual picnic, Bi-District Training Day and other hosted events
Budget management and analysis of department expenses for reforecast and future
budget development
Management of several simultaneous projects in various phases of completion
Volunteer recruitment, training and management
Vendor procurement and vendor management
On-site management including set-up and clean up
Preparation of communication and administrative items for each event
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
BA or equivalent.
Event planning experience within a non-profit, church or corporate setting required
Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking and ability to articulate a
creative vision
Ability to manage several projects and work assignments from a variety of sources
Self-starter and capability for self-management
Flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary
Committed to spreading the love of Christ through the connection of people and
community
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word and Outlook
