Failed Bike Thief Escapes After Being Chased By Herndon Homeowner: Police

HERNDON, VA — Town of Herndon police are looking for a man who attempted to steal a bike from a Herndon home in the 200 block of Van Buren St, according to the weekly crime report.

The victim told police he was alerted around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 by his security system for movement in his garage. Opening the inside garage door, the victim encountered a man stealing a bike. The victim chased the suspect, who dropped the bike and ran away.

Police described the suspect as a man in his late teens or early 20s. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hoodie, light blue jeans and black shoes.

Herndon police also warned the public to lock their cars. At least 11 vehicles were entered and objects were taken on Sept. 18. All of the vehicles involved were unlocked.

Between Sept. 13-19, Town of Herndon police officers issued 106 traffic summonses, including six for driving while intoxicated, nine for driving with no operator's license, two for driving on a suspended or revoked license, and 29 for operating a vehicle while holding a phone.

There were five reportable traffic accidents in Herndon. Virginia State Police define "reportable crashes" as those that result in $1,500 in property damage and/or injury.
