Letter: Why I'm Supporting a Bipartisan Leader for State Senate
Joe T. May, former Delegate and businessman, is running for the 33rd district state Senate seat. The special election is on January 8th.
Politicians often pay lip service to public education but fail to back up their promises. As a Virginian college student myself, I know that Joe May is a different kind of leader.
For decades, Joe May has been one of Virginia’s most steadfast champions of strong public schools and opportunity for all Virginians. As a delegate, Joe May helped establish and promote several STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs to prepare Virginian students to be competitive in the 21st century economy. As a leader in our community, Joe May underwrote an engineering program at Virginia Tech for 300 first generation Virginia students -- bringing opportunity and a shot at the American Dream to hundreds of young people in our communities.
Joe May has fought to protect admissions slots for in-state students at Virginia’s world-class colleges and universities, to ensure Northern Virginia gets its fair share of education funds and to keep resources in the classroom.

There is nothing more crucial to fostering opportunity and success for Virginia students like me than strong public schools that provide the next generation it needs to succeed.
When it comes to education, Joe May’s leadership in his public and private life prove that he is the right choice for families and students in the 33rd Senate District. This is why I’m supporting Joe May in the January 8th Special Election, and I encourage my friends and neighbors to do the same.
