Man Charged In Herndon Abduction Case: Police Report

Fairfax County Police linked a man they arrested for burglary with a recent abduction in the Herndon area of the county.

HERNDON, VA — Fairfax County Police have linked a man they arrested late Wednesday night for burglary to a Nov. 27 abduction that took place in Herndon area of the county, according to a police release.

Officers from the Fair Oaks Police District responded just after 8 a.m. for the report of a suspicious individual near Sunrise Valley Drive in Herndon. After police failed to locate a suspect, detectives remained in the area looking for the person because his description matched that of an individual wanted for a Nov. 27 assault.

A community member notified police around 8 p.m. that a man was attempting to break into a home in the 13900 block of Mansarde Avenue in Herndon. The description of the suspect matched that of the man officers were looking for. Patrol officers and the Neighborhood Patrol Unit from the Fair Oaks District Station, the Reston District Neighborhood Patrol Unit, K9 unit, and detectives surrounded the area and began a search. Just before midnight, officers apprehended Gerald Brevard III, who was trying to conceal himself in the common area of a nearby apartment complex.

FCPD charged Brevard with burglary and possession of burglarious tools. Police also charged him with abduction in connection with the Nov. 27 case. Additional charges are pending. Brevard is being held without bond in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

In the Nov. 27 incident, a man grabbed a woman from behind, as she was standing in the hallway of a hotel in the 13400 block of Sunrise Valley Drive, around 7:30 a.m. Covering her mouth, the man pushed her against a wall and then assaulted her. The woman was able to yell for help and the men fled the scene. The woman suffered minor injuries.

In the second incident, around 8:52 p.m., on Dec. 3, a woman entered the common area in the 13500 block of Virginia Randolph Ave. in the Ashford Meadows Apartments complex, when a man approached her. The man implied that he had a gun and demanded the woman hand over her personal property. After the woman complied, the man fled the scene.

On the same day, around 11:45 p.m., a woman was walking near the intersection of Centreville Road and Woodland Park, when a man struck her with an object. Moving her away from the sidewalk, the man sexually assaulted her, stole some personal property, and then walked away from the area. The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the Dec. 3 robbery and sexual assault.

The victims in these three attacks are receiving appropriate resources and assistance from FCPD's Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division.
