Multiple Sex Abuse Charges Await MD Suspect After Arrest At Dulles Airport In VA

DULLES, VA — A Salvadoran man wanted on several felony sex abuse charges in Montgomery County, Maryland, was stopped by customs officers just after midnight on Friday as he was coming off a flight at Washington Dulles International Airport, according to a release.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested 57-year-old Calixto Lazo Cabrera shortly after he arrived at the airport, according to a release. Lazo Cabrera is wanted by the Montgomery County Department of Police on multiple felony sex assault charges, including sex abuse of a minor, sex abuse second degree, and sex abuse third degree.

The flight from El Salvador landed at CBP’s National Targeting Center, where international passenger and cargo manifests are compared to law enforcement databases.

The National Crime Information Center alerted CBP officers at the airport that there was a Montgomery County arrest warrant for Lazo Cabrera. They then met him during the primary inspection process and escorted him to a secondary examination, where he was fingerprinted and his identity confirmed, according to the release. Lazo Cabrera was then turned over to Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police officers.

“Customs and Border Protection is happy to help our law enforcement partners in Montgomery County by capturing an allegedly dangerous person wanted for very serious crimes against minors,” said Christine Waugh, acting area port director for CBP’s Area Port of Washington, D.C., in a release. “CBP’s border security mission allows us to ensure victims’ rights by arresting fugitives as they arrive to the United States or before they can flee accountability. It’s one way in which we can help our partners make our streets a little safer.”
