Massive Herndon Rainstorm Downgraded Slightly, But Will Still Be Epic
Forecasters expect Herndon to get pounded with as much as 5.5 inches of rain Friday and into as late as Sunday.
HERNDON, VA — The latest models of Friday's projected rainstorm have shifted the heaviest rainfall areas out of the Reston and Herndon area, but it's still expected to be an epic storm.
The models had originally predicted as much as 6.8 inches in the area, but now Reston and Herndon fall in the range of about 5.5 inches, which still would be a massive rainfall.
The Capital Weather Gang states that a "long duration, heavy rain event has become increasingly likely" for the entire D.C. area from Friday through Saturday night, and it could even linger into Sunday.

That means some low-lying areas could see significant flooding, although some pockets will be hit much harder than others.
The Capital Weather Gang called it a "very unusual storm system" for this time of year, and added it was more reminiscent of a Nor'easter. Pockets of 6 to 7 inches of rain are extreme, and are the equivalent of 60 to 70 inches of snow if it were winter.
