Nonprofit Helping Herndon Girls In Need Receives Big Donation
International Care Ministries and Rappaport donate an automobile and fuel to keep it running to She Believes in Me.

HERNDON, VA — A Herndon-based nonprofit received an unexpected gift Friday that will help it to continue its mission of enhancing the lives of at-risk girls in the community.
International Care Ministries and local developer Rappaport presented She Believes in Me (SBIM) with a red Impreza automobile and enough fuel to keep it going.
“I am bowled over by International Care Ministry’s generosity and Rappaport’s continued support,” said Renee Gorman, SBIM founder and president, in a release. “We are so very grateful. Having a vehicle and gas donated to She Believes in Me will enhance our ability to serve more children and their families and give us a greater ability to focus on the growth of our ministry.”

On Friday, Dale Sunderland, president of International Care Ministries, and Daphne Rappaport, presented Gorman with gas cards and the keys to the car.
“The car will be used to pick up donations from other partnerships — including diapers and food — and will also allow us to go to the store and shop for other ‘gap items,” Gorman said, in a release. “Additionally, we’ll be able to pick up children for special events and counseling groups because vulnerable children often can’t get to our offices. Now we can go pick them up.”

Founded in 2018 by a group of school counselors, teachers, and social workers, SBIM provides a network of support for young girls in Herndon, many of whom are experiencing poverty and trauma. SBIM seeks to empower the girls through mentoring and enriching activities.

SBIM's work supports students from Clearview, Coates, McNair, and Hutchison Elementary schools in Herndon; Centreville Elementary School in Centreville; and Herndon Middle and Herndon High schools in Herndon. Social workers or counselors at these schools often refer students in need of assistance to SBIM.
This isn't the first time Rappaport and her husband Gary, who happens to the the CEO of Rappaport, have reached out to help SBIM. Last December, the couple donated retail space at Worldgate Centre, so the nonprofit could have room to meet and carry out its work.
