Officials to Break Ground on New Herndon Metro Station Parking Garage Wednesday

The $44.5 million project is scheduled for completion in spring 2019.

HERNDON, VA — Here's something to be excited about if you live in Herndon: a new Metro station will be in the area soon enough, and Fairfax County officials will break ground on the new Herndon Station parking garage on Wednesday.

The 2,007-space parking facility, which will help reduce congestion on Northern Virginia roadways, will cost $44.5 million and be completed in the spring of 2019, if everything stays on schedule, according to a statement.

The project will include a pedestrian bridge from the garage to the Silver Line station to be constructed, and connections to an existing 1,745-space parking garage.

Fairfax County officials will be at the Herndon-Monroe Park and Rise surface lot at 12530 Sunrise Valley Drive at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30 for a groundbreaking ceremony.

The architect of the building is Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, and the contractor is Manhattan Construction Company.
