Partnering in Service to Seniors
Herndon Village Network and the Herndon Senior Center work together to make a difference.

Herndon Village Network (HVN) is looking forward to another opportunity to work with the Herndon Senior Center to make the lives of local senior citizens brighter. On Friday, April 26th, at 11:00 a.m., seniors will enjoy a program by the Rising Phoenix Performers, and HVN will be providing some refreshments to enjoy.
Sarah Sprague, the Herndon Senior Center Director, explained that HVN’s goody bags always add something special. “The seniors enjoy the sweet treats while watching and listening to the beautiful sounds of songs of their favorite pastimes.”
This is not the first time that HVN and the Herndon Senior Center have joined forces to offer opportunities for local seniors. The two organizations have been working closely together since HVN’s founding in 2015. They’ve collaborated on performances, informational fairs, shred events, and more. Together, they keep Herndon area seniors active and connected to the community they know and love.

“When we began over eight years ago, it just made sense for us to work closely with the senior center,” shared Penny Halpern, President of HVN’s Board of Directors. “While we’re best known for providing friendly, vetted volunteers to help seniors get out and about, we enjoy arranging for special programs to be held at the senior center as well as supporting those the senior center plans, like the program by the Rising Phoenix Performers. Together, we reach and engage hundreds of seniors every year.”
Halpern further described how HVN provides senior members with free, unlimited access to day and evening transportation on weekdays and weekends. This more organized concept of neighbors helping neighbors encourages older residents to age in the Herndon community and allows them to maintain established routines and connections, which results in a higher quality of life. Since its beginning in 2015, HVN and its wonderful volunteers have driven over 68,400 miles to provide 4,366 rides to doctor appointments, grocery stores, social engagements, and more!

Sprague added, “Through its many years of partnership with the Herndon Senior Center, HVN has supported the senior center members in improving their quality of life. From transportation support to social visits, HVN has always been there to support and provide a friendly hand!”
