Ribbon Cut On Haley M. Smith Park Picnic Pavilion By Herndon Officials

Elected officials convened at Haley M. Smith Park in the Town of Herndon Wednesday morning to cut the ribbon on new picnic pavilion.

HERNDON, VA — Local elected officials gathered at Haley M. Smith Park in the Town of Herndon on Wednesday morning to cut the ribbon on a new picnic pavilion.

"The Haley M. Smith Park picnic pavilion stands as a testament to the Town of Herndon’s commitment to fostering spaces where community members can come together, share moments, and create lasting memories," Town of Herndon Parks & Recreation Department said, in a release.

Haley M. Smith Park is already home to two 60-foot baseball/softball fields, a rectangular field, and basketball and sand volleyball courts, as well as a playground for children 5-12 and a tot lot.

The park, which is located at 324 Van Bren St. at Herndon Parkway, was named for Haley McCool Smith, Herndon's "godfather of youth sports." Historian Barbara Glakas of the Herndon Historical Society recently wrote a feature about Smith for Patch.
