Lord & Taylor, Saks OFF 5TH Report Data Security Breach

A data security issue involving customer payment card data at certain Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks OFF 5TH and Lord & Taylor stores in North America was reported on Sunday.

"We identified the issue, took steps to contain it, and believe it no longer poses a risk to customers shopping at our stores. While the investigation is ongoing, there is no indication that this affects our e-commerce or other digital platforms, Hudson's Bay, Home Outfitters, or HBC Europe. We deeply regret any inconvenience or concern this may cause," parent company Hudson Bay's Company stated on its website.

As a result of the security breach, HBC is advising customers to closely monitor their account statements. If they see an unauthorized charge or a charge they do not recognize, they should notify their card issuer immediately.

HBC says they are working with data security investigators to get more information such as what stores and which customers were affected by the breach. HBC is also working with law enforcement authorities and the payment card companies.

Once more information is available, HBC says it will notify customers and will offer those impacted free identity protection services, including credit and web monitoring. Additionally, affected customers will not be liable for fraudulent charges that may result from this matter.

As far as what information was released, HBC claims that there is no indication that social security or social insurance numbers, driver's license numbers, or PINs have been affected by this issue.

Locally, Lord & Taylor has a location in Westfield at 609 North Ave. W. and in Bridgewater at the Bridgewater Commons mall at 400 Commons Way.

A Saks OFF 5TH also recently opened in Bridgewater in the new Chimney Rock Crossing complex on March 8.
