Saturday Night Fire Damages Herndon-Area Restaurant

No injuries reported in blaze: Fairfax County Fire Department.

A kitchen fire on Saturday night caused about $50,000 in damage to a Herndon-area restaurant, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire and rescue units responded at about 9:40 p.m. to the Sizzling Express Deli, 13861 Sunrise Valley Drive, and encountered smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the four-story building.

There was no one in the restaurant when the fire broke out, the fire department said. The alarm company called 911 after a smoke alarm activated.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries. According to fire investigators, an unattended pan on a hot stove caused the fire.
