Scam Alert: Town of Herndon Isn't Robo-Calling You

Resident reported a suspicious call that appeared to be coming from the town, according to Herndon Police.

HERNDON, VA — Residents of Herndon are warned that a call that appears to be coming from the town is actually a scam.

A resident reported to Herndon Police that he received a call from a phone number with the caller ID that read "Town of Herndon."

The call instructed the man to press '9" if he wished to reduce the APR on his current credit cards.

After he pressed "9," a man began to speak and the resident realized this was some sort of scam.

"The Town of Herndon never initiates automated calls," according to Lt. Mike Berg. "If you receive an automated call with a caller ID indicating the call is coming from the Town of Herndon hang-up immediately and contact the Herndon Police at 703-435-6846."
