Spent Fireworks Spark Fire That Causes $371K In Damage To Herndon Home
Improperly discarded spent fireworks were the cause of the July 4 fire that resulted in $371,290 in damage to a Town of Herndon home.

HERNDON, VA ā Improperly discarded fireworks are to blame for the July 4 fire that caused an estimated $371,290 in damage to a Town of Herndon home, according to inspectors with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
County fire units, along with mutual aid partners from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue and Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, responded around 12:55 a.m. to the 600 block of Stuart Court for the report of a house fire.
Heavy flames were showing from a two-story home, single-family home. Crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire.

One person was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to FCFRD.
Twelve occupants were in the home when the fire started. They were able to safely evacuate and contact 911.

Originating near a sliding glass door inside the the screened-in porch, the fire was caused by improperly discarded spent fireworks, according to inspectors. It was determined that the fire was accidental in nature.
The Red Cross assisted the 12 occupants who were displaced due to the fire, according to FCFRD.
